The problem isn't that skill gaps exist — every organization has them. The problem is that most organizations can't see them. You can't close gaps you can't see.
What We Measure
Four dimensions of skills visibility
Each dimension reveals a different layer of your organization's ability to see and act on skills data.
Skills Inventory
Do you know what skills your workforce actually has? Or is that knowledge locked in managers' heads and outdated spreadsheets?
Gap Visibility
Can you see where the gaps are — at the individual, team, and organizational level — without launching a special project?
Development Alignment
Is your training investment connected to actual skill gaps? Or are you buying content libraries and hoping relevance happens?
Decision Readiness
Can your leadership team make workforce decisions — hiring, succession, restructuring — using skills data as a core input?
What is skill gap visibility?
Skill gap visibility is an organization's ability to see, measure, and act on the skill gaps in its workforce — not whether gaps exist (every organization has them), but whether leadership can identify where they are, how severe they are, and what to do about them. Organizations with high skill gap visibility can answer questions like "Which teams have the biggest skill gaps?" and "Is our training investment hitting the right gaps?" using data, not intuition.
Skills gap visibility is measured across four dimensions: skills inventory (do you know what skills you have?), gap visibility (can you see where the gaps are?), development alignment (is training connected to actual gaps?), and decision readiness (can leadership use skills data for workforce decisions?). Most organizations score below 50 out of 100 — meaning they lack the infrastructure to see gaps at the individual, team, or organizational level.
